About DBT

Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) is an evidence-based psychological treatment originally developed by Dr Marsha Linehan. It combines cognitive-behavioural techniques with mindfulness practices to help people manage intense emotions, improve relationships, and build a life worth living. DBT in Mind is one of the few UK organisations directly trained and supervised by the original developers of DBT.
DBT is effective for a range of difficulties including emotion dysregulation, self-harm, relationship difficulties, complex trauma, BPD/EUPD, ADHD, and autism. Our team has specialist training in adapting DBT for neurodivergent clients and those with complex presentations.
Mentalization-Based Treatment (MBT) is another evidence-based therapy we offer. It focuses on strengthening your ability to understand your own mental states and those of others, helping you make sense of thoughts, feelings, and behaviours in yourself and in your relationships.
Alongside DBT and MBT, our therapists are trained in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) for couples, Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), Radically Open DBT (RO-DBT), and integrative psychotherapy. We'll recommend the approach that best fits your needs.

Our Programmes

Our comprehensive DBT programme includes weekly individual therapy sessions, skills training groups, and 7-day phone coaching for crisis support between sessions. The skills curriculum covers four core modules: Mindfulness, Distress Tolerance, Emotion Regulation, and Interpersonal Effectiveness, plus an advanced 10-week relationship skills module.
Yes. We offer a Skills Group Only option where you attend group learning sessions with optional one-to-one support. This can be a good starting point if you want to learn DBT skills without committing to the full comprehensive programme.
Our online skills groups run at various times throughout the week: Monday 5:45–7:15pm, Tuesday 4:00–5:30pm and 6:00–7:30pm, Wednesday 6:00–8:00pm, and Thursday 5:30–7:30pm. All groups run via Zoom.
Yes. We run an 8-week DBT Skills Group for Partners and Family Members on Saturdays from 10:00am to 12:00pm. The programme covers mindfulness, relationship skills, emotion regulation, communication, boundary-setting, and validation, giving loved ones practical tools to support both themselves and the person in therapy.

Fees & Practicalities

Individual and group sessions are £85 per session. We offer concessionary rates for clients on low incomes. The Family & Partner Skills Group runs for 8 weeks at £680 per person (£85/week), or £960 for two family members. A 50% non-refundable deposit is required for group programmes.
Yes. Our weekday skills groups run online via Zoom, and most of our therapists offer online individual sessions. This means you can access our services from anywhere in the UK. We also run in-person skills groups on Saturdays near King's Cross. Some therapists also see clients in person at our London locations.
We have consulting rooms at Barnsbury Community Centre in King's Cross (N1 0FE) and The Practice Rooms on Caledonian Road in Islington (N1 9RD). Individual therapists also see clients at locations including London Bridge, Angel, Brixton, Finchley, High Barnet, Queen's Park, Primrose Hill, and Paignton in South Devon.

No. While many of our clients come to us following assessments or recommendations from GPs, psychiatrists, or other professionals, you can also self-refer. Simply get in touch and we'll discuss which of our services might be right for you.
Our team of 10 therapists hold advanced qualifications including MSc-level clinical training, UKCP and BABCP accreditation, and specialist DBT certification. Several have completed intensive training directly with The Linehan Institute, the organisation founded by DBT's creator, Dr Marsha Linehan. Our team has a combined experience of over 150 years in mental health.
Your first session is an assessment where we get to know you, understand your difficulties, and discuss your goals. We'll explain how DBT works and help you decide whether the comprehensive programme, skills group, or another approach is the best fit. There's no pressure. It's a conversation to see if we're right for each other.
